Spurred by students’ passion for the cause, the Nobles Girls’ and Boys’ Hockey team hosted a fundraising event on Jan. 22 to benefit the Massachusetts Soldier Legacy Fund (MSLF). The MSLF provides college tuition assistance to children of fallen Massachusetts soldiers. Established in 2004 by Peter Trovato as a senior thesis project at UMass Amherst, MSLF is now a thriving non-profit organization that funds a minimum of $40,000 for higher education for each child of a Massachusetts servicemember who died while fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan.

With generous donations from visiting teams from Phillips Exeter Academy and Phillips Academy, Andover, and the referees—who donated their game checks—the event raised close to $10,000. Other sources of funds included guest donations, 50/50 raffle and food sales. To learn more about the MSL Fund, please visit http://www.mslfund.org.
