Install NoblesNet

To install the client on your machine please follow the instructions below:

Step One: Downloading

Goal is to download the installer software for your mac or pc
--> Go to www.firstclass.com, OpenText is the company that makes FirstClass (the generic name for what we call NoblesNet)
--> Move your mouse pointer to the word that says "Resources". This will give you a drop down menu where you can click on the selection "Download FirstClass Client"
This takes you to the downloads web page.
Review the download table carefully choose the correct version for your computer and operating system version.

Step Two: Installing

Now that the installer has been downloaded to your machine, you do not need to be on the web anymore; you can quit or exit your web browser and run the installer. Find it on your machine which should be a file that starts with "FC". Follow the instructions the installer gives you.

Step Three: Customizing for NoblesNet

The next step is to launch the application FirstClass. When you launch the application FirstClass on your Mac or PC, you will get to a screen where you can login that looks like
 

click on the "Advanced" button and then on the "Setup" button that will take you to a screen that you see below. You need to change the SERVER : to "BBS.NOBLES.EDU" and of course SAVE. The reason to NOT put your Password here is that it makes it frustrating for anyone else using the same machine to log in to NoblesNet. You can put in your userid but once again it is a little safer if you type it in everytime as well.

Step Four: Logon.   

You are done! You are ready to log in to NoblesNet. Why? Because you have installed FirstClass and have customized it for NoblesNet. Remember that you need to be "connected" to the internet

Anything else to tell you?

• Yes, you will not enjoy the funky icons and sounds of NoblesNet, but that will be a different lesson and involves a settings file.
