“Nobles is a safe place to be yourself. There’s a lot of respect for people who are comfortable in their own skin. We ask students to engage their curiosity and experiment.”

– Betsy VanOot, Visual Arts Department

Through the wide range of visual and performing arts at Nobles, you’ll explore opportunities for creativity as an avenue for intellectual problem-solving. In the arts you set out to solve problems that have never been posed before—and constantly explore a new and satisfying way of seeing yourself and your capabilities. The visual and performing arts are pursued at Nobles with the same level of intellectual intensity and spirit of joy as every other area of learning. In Middle School, you will sample a wide range of offerings. In Upper School courses—from painting to playwriting, music theory to digital photography—you dive deeper to realize your own personal creative vision. Our supportive community encourages you to share your talents with peers and teachers—singing at Middle School coffeehouse or in a choral concert, exhibiting sculptures from your AP portfolio in the School’s professional gallery, debuting a student band at Assembly, or experimenting with character development in improv class. You will be reminded each day of the value of creative pursuits, and the importance of a well-rounded life.
