Nobles Squash Around the World

By the end of this summer, Nobles squash players will have travelled to four continents for their sport. Gracie Doyle ’17 recently played for team USA in New Zealand. Jake Koeppel ’21 and Jesse Brownell ’19 played in Germany at the beginning of July. Brownell will play again in Canada in early August. Her mother, Nobles coach Christina Brownell, and Patrick McElroy ’17 recently represented American squash in Paraquay.

Girls varsity squash has won for five consecutive years, skiing for seven consecutive years, basketball for 14 years and hockey for 18 years.

On Tuesday, January 10, Nobles travelled 650 strong to see the girls varsity hockey team face off against BB&N at Frozen Fenway.

Proceeds from the event benefitted Denna Laing ’10, a former Nobles, Princeton University and Boston Pride hockey player who suffered a spinal cord injury at last year’s Women’s Winter Classic.

Student Athletes 4 Change Challenge

On November 19 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Nobles will host the Student Athletes 4 Change Challenge to raise funds for at-risk student athletes in grades 3–8.

Nobles basketball players, in co-ed teams of five, will compete against Park School, Rivers and Thayer in an online math challenge.

Nobles to Host Scholastic Basketball Program

Two of USA Basketball's Youth Development Division northeast pilot programs have teamed up to deliver an elite Scholastic Basketball League (SBL) for girls and boys in grades 3-8.  The Saturday sessions, hosted at Nobles and other locations, begin December 5 and run through March 12. The program seeks to teach young people to adopt team-related skills and attitudes using an innovative, competitive approach.  The SBL program also develops social responsibility, physical health and emotional well-being to build tomorrow's leaders. This weekend marked the 51st Head of the Charles, the largest long distance rowing event in the world with more than 11,000 athletes and 2,500 crews coming from over 60 countries to compete. The event was historic for Nobles Crew on many dimensions. For the first time we had four crews (2 girls, 2 boys competing) comprising 14 athletes representing our school.

Two communities came together for an evening of friendly rivalry on Friday, January 9th for the annual Nobles vs. Cotting School basketball game. The event, originated by Will Randle '09 when his sister attended Cotting, has become a beloved tradition for both schools. The Cotting School opened in 1893 as the country's first free day school for children with physical disabilities; it aims to help each student to achieve his or her highest learning potential and level of independence.

Congratulations to all Nobles teams and coaches on a memorable fall season. Highlights as follows: After competing in the New England Class A Tournament with four overtimes to end in a 0–0 tie with number one seed Choate Rosemary Hall, girls varsity soccer earned the title as Class A Co-Champions. ISL co-champions girls varsity field hockey defeated New England powerhouse Greenwich Academy, 2–1. The team claimed the New England Class A Championship after two overtimes and strokes when captain Emily Ott ’14 ripped the fifth stroke past the Greenwich goalie.
