School Closing

To the Nobles community,

It seems, as of this writing, that the nightmare of this week may be approaching some resolution.  While what I hope are the final stages of this drama are playing out on our television screens, I think it is important to get some information out about Saturday plans at Nobles.  I hope everyone is doing okay after enduring this period of anxiety.

All Nobles events and activities scheduled for Saturday will go on as scheduled.  The exception to this is the Achieve program, which had to be cancelled earlier today for a variety of reasons.  There may be cancellations of athletic events for weather or other reasons beyond our control, but notification about that will arrive through normal channels.  Everyone, however, should stay alert for more information from the school tomorrow morning in case this situation changes - it certainly has been unpredictable.  But no further news from the school in the morning can be considered good news!

Please keep the people and families who have been so profoundly affected by the tragic and sad events of this week close in your thoughts and prayers.  Very best wishes to everyone for a peaceful weekend with your friends and families.

Mid day announcement

To the members of the Nobles community,

This note is to follow-up on my earlier communication in regard to activities here at school for the remainder of Friday.  All events are cancelled today, this afternoon, and this evening.  Specifically, there will be no meetings of any school organizations or committees, and no athletic practices or games.  This evening's "Unstrung Cafe" is postponed to a later date yet to be decided.  The Class IV Parent Social scheduled for tonight is postponed - the rescheduled date will be decided later (no one will be chitted for the event, and the flowers will be donated to a worthy local cause).

Boarding students are welcome to stay here today and overnight, especially if they cannot get back to their homes because of travel restrictions.  We will not release boarders to return home without specific permission from a parent.  While boarders are here, and as long as they have to be here, they will be well taken care of.  Boarding parents should communicate directly with Karen Gallagher.

The Achieve program will not meet on Saturday.  That decision had to be made today.  However, no decisions have yet been made in regard to any other events or activities scheduled for Saturday - those decisions will be made later as the situation continues to evolve.

The school counselors will remain available through today and the weekend - please contact Mr. Spence, Ms. Mary Batty, or Ms. Jen Hamilton by email if you would like to connect with them.  Many school offices and the phone switchboard are open today.

This has certainly been an unsettling morning.  We will do all we can to help and support everyone in this community today and in the days ahead.  Messages from the school will continue to be relayed via email and on the school website.

Take care of each other and keep safe,

Bob Henderson

Earlier Message to the community

To everyone in the Nobles community,

We all awoke today to a very strange and disturbing set of circumstances.  I trust that everyone is okay.  Making and communicating a decision about closing school was more complicated than usual this morning, given the late hour this morning that we became aware of the situation and the confused nature of information we were getting - I apologize if word of school closing came to you after you left the house.  We will send updated information about school events this afternoon, evening, and tomorrow as events in the area unfold.  You can expect another message from the school before noon.  Thank you for your patience as we all try to navigate these trying developments.

School counselors are available - if you would like to connect with Mr. Spence, Ms. Hamilton or Ms. Batty, contact them first by email and they will get back to you, today and through the weekend.  Many of the administrative staff are available at school today, and the phones are open.  Please let someone here know if you or your family have been particularly affected by these circumstances, or if the school can in any way be of help.

Please keep everyone who has been impacted by the tragic events of this week is in your thoughts and prayers.
