 | | | Nobles students Ngina Shillingford, back left, and Julia Weber, back right, deliver laptops to school children at The Newtown Primary School. |
Ngina Shillingford and Julia Weber, both Class of 2011, represented the Nobles Africa OLPC Club and fulfilled a dream of the Shillingford family by bringing XO computers from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Program to the native Kalinago people of Dominica, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, and The Newtown Primary School. The Minister of Education and other dignitaries were on hand for the formal deployment ceremony, which included speeches by Ngina and Julia, as well as chilled coconut milk for all. The students and teachers of both the Kalinago School and the Newtown School were greatly appreciative and began using their XO computers to enhance their education right away. The children are looking forward to continued, informative friendship with OLPC and Nobles through Ngina and Julia. | As temperatures soar this week, hundreds of campers find ways to cool down at Nobles Day Camp. When they’re not beading, painting or enjoying an indoor sing-a-long in the air-conditioned Schoolhouse, the youngest campers are making a big splash outside, doing anything they can to beat the heat. Pictured above, the group chooses a youthful pose in front of the oldest pyramid in all of Egypt, more than 5,000 years old. More about the newest Nobles trip will be featured in next Fall's issue of Ten Campus Drive. Click here for more photos... | |
