Tentacles, Fins, Eyeballs Prove No Match for Aspiring Marine Biologists
Iesha Caisey
Iesha Caisey '10 and Ross Henderson work on dissecting the body of the Humboldt squid

In the weeks leading up to March break, the Humboldt squid, also known as the jumbo squid, was the topic of discussion -- and dissection -- in Ross Henderson's Marine Biology classes. The Humboldt, which can grow up to 7 feet in length and weigh a whopping 100 pounds, was shipped to Nobles from the West Coast to culminate the classes' study of invertebrates. As students took turns with the scalpel, they discovered the squid's razor-sharp beak, diamond-shaped fins and fist-sized eyeballs.  Click here to check out photos of the Humboldt squid Dissection!

Representatives from the Turkish National Security Council, Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Turkish Military and NATO gathered at Nobles on Monday, March 1, to discuss political issues and engage in diplomatic debate. The event was a simulation, designed to allow Class IV students to study real, global scenarios while learning valuable conflict-resolution skills. Taking a day away from the classroom, Nobles ninth graders immersed themselves in collaborative workshops, intellectual discussion and “preventative diplomacy.”  Read more...

Humor to the 'Twainth' Degree
Ian Trase
Ian Trase '10 as "Papa Leroux"

Humor has been advocated in Nobles’ Mission statement for more than a decade. It sets us apart from peer schools in the Independent School League (ISL). It’s a known antidote for depression, a stimulus for getting in touch with one’s “inner child,” a staple of theatre, from comedy to farce to burlesque. In its winter season, the Nobles Theatre Collective has embraced humor with open arms, literally and figuratively. Shortly before March break, the NTC mounted Mark Twain’s hilarious comedy Is He Dead?...  more >

More League Titles for Nobles

Success continued in the winter season with three teams capturing ISL Titles.  Girls Hockey (18-2-4) team won its 11th consecutive title.  Girls Basketball (18-5) also continued a streak of titles with its 7th ISL crown and an 18-5 record.  Boys Hockey (22-4-1) won 19 straight games to earn its 3rd ISL Keller championship in 6 years.  Each of these teams now enter NEPSAC tournament play with opening games on Wednesday, 3/3.

Judge Gertner Brings Activist Background to Massachusetts Court

The Hon. Nancy Gertner, who grew up in Queens with Jewish immigrant roots and a family belief that money for higher education should be reserved for boys, told a spellbound Assembly Wednesday, “You can do anything or be anything…I had big dreams…Money shouldn’t limit you or be a measure of your success. The number of people whose lives we change [for the better] and the causes we advocate are what matter.” Later she reminded students: “There are lots of routes to your future.”   Read more...
