Opening the first meeting of the 2010-2011 academic year on August 31, Head of School Robert P. Henderson Jr. ’76, reminded the faculty and staff, “It is important that all the adults of the community gather for these few minutes to reinitiate the enterprise in which we are together engaged.”   Read more...

While students are home, enjoying the final moments of summer, campus is already buzzing with new faces, new beginnings and first-day-of-school jitters.  New faculty and staff members arrived at the end of August, eager to meet their colleagues, explore the grounds and start planning for the year.  Early morning handshakes and nametags turned to more elaborate introductions as the annual New Faculty/Staff Orientation kicked off in the Shattuck Schoolhouse. For a chance to "meet" the newest members of the Nobles community, look for the first issue of 10 Campus Drive  later this Fall.

Foster Gallery Exhibits
Objects of an Everyday Life
Nora Creahan Image

Foster Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of ceramics works by Nobles Visual Arts teacher Nora Jean Creahan. Creahan's stoneware pieces are rich explorations of texture, color and form that celebrate the simple, universal, and elemental qualities of ceramics. Her work is rugged, rough, sometimes pitted, often worn with the rich patina of the woodfired kiln, always reminding you that every piece is only earth and water, after all. This fall, she will be teaching an Afternoon Program workshop in woodfired ceramics.  Click here to learn more about the Foster Gallery.

Getting Connected: Nobles Students Deliver Laptops to Dominica

Ngina Shillingford and Julia Weber, both Class of 2011, represented the Nobles Africa OLPC Club and fulfilled a dream of the Shillingford family by bringing XO computers from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Program to the native Kalinago people of Dominica, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, and The Newtown Primary School. The Minister of Education and other dignitaries were on hand for the formal deployment ceremony, which included speeches by Ngina and Julia, as well as chilled coconut milk for all.   Click here to read a Dominica Central Newspaper article about the OLPC-Dominica project.

Marty Richards Rocks Fenway

Concert-goers enjoyed a sold-out show at Fenway last week, when Aerosmith took to the stage. The opening act for the rock legends was The J. Geils Band, for which Nobles music faculty member Marty Richards plays the drums. One grad in attendance wrote in: "Marty rocked the house on the big screen, flowing curls and all! The bands blew away the stadium and it was a great show." Congratulations, Marty!

Nobles Day Camp Makes A Splash!

As temperatures soar this week, hundreds of campers find ways to cool down at Nobles Day Camp. When they’re not beading, painting or enjoying an indoor sing-a-long in the air-conditioned Schoolhouse, the youngest campers are making a big splash outside, doing anything they can to beat the heat.   For more information about Nobles Day Camp, click here.
