Nobles Parents' E-Newsletter September 2010

Considering Our Mission By Robert Henderson Jr. '76, Head of School

The news story that dominated the summer was the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I am part of the shrinking demographic that daily watches the evening television news. Yet it got to the point in July that even my high tolerance for the persistent negativity of the network reports wore thin – I just found the images of the Gulf as a chemical sewer too hard to take night after night.

Goal Setting and a New School Year by Ben Snyder, Head of Upper School

At the beginning of each school year I sit with each of my advisees, my class and my team and talk about the importance of setting goals for the coming year. Early in my career I would let students get away with simple and fairly obvious goals...

Important Conversations by Bill Bussey, Provost

A number of years ago, I was meeting with a 10th-grade advisee who was mapping out his next two years at Nobles. He had grown more intellectually curious and focused during his sophomore year and, above all, he had wanted to build on his recent classroom accomplishments.

Grandparents' Day

The PA Special Events Committee is busy planning for Grandparents' Day on
Friday, September 24, 2010. The daylong event gives grandparents (or in lieu of grandparents, a significant adult figure other than the child's parents) an “inside view” of a typical day at Nobles. Grandparents received an invitation/schedule of events by mail during the week of August 9. If your parents did not receive an invitation, please call Kathy Johnson at 781-320-7001 and she will send one out promptly.
