Located in central Africa, Rwanda is a country that suffered unimaginable tragedy more than 20 years ago. Yet it has emerged as a remarkable success story as one of the most quickly developing economies in the world, as a model for reconciliation and forgiveness and as one of the safest countries in Africa.

This trip offers a unique opportunity to work closely with (and get to know) Rwandan youth, as well as learn about the history of the genocide and the political and economic recovery of the country. The majority of our time will be spent living and working at the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village, an organization that a number of Nobles families have visited and supported in recent years. We will engage in service work with students from ASYV as well as participate in a whole host of campus activities. We hope to continue our partnership with Shooting Touch - a Boston based nonprofit that works in Rwanda utilizing the platform and language of basketball to promote health education and disease prevention, academic enrichment, and self-efficacy for youth in Rwanda.

The Nobles group will also spend three days in Kigali working with students from Kepler Kigali, a higher education startup, meet with government officials responsible for the economic rebirth of the country and the visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and Nyamata Genocide Memorial.  In 2016 and 2017 we were fortunate to be able to visit the Gihembe Refugee Camp (a United Nations refugee camp) and hope to be able to do so again in 2018.
