College Counseling Timeline

Noble and Greenough offers a comprehensive, 18-month college counseling program for students and parents that is designed to prepare students to be the strongest possible applicants that they can be. The following are college counseling timelines for students by class year:

Class IV


General tasks/goals:

  • Successful transition to the Nobles Upper School
  • Develop academic, social and interpersonal skills
  • Explore various clubs and activities, and afternoon program offerings
  • Consider college financing
  • Find summer opportunities that allow you to explore an area of interest


February meeting: Maximizing the Nobles Experience: Course Planning and the College Process

Class III


General tasks/goals:

  • Meet college counselor
  • Map curriculum for future years
  • Develop standardized testing plan
  • Evaluate co-curricular strengths/interests
  • Explore EXCEL opportunities
  • Begin self-reflection
  • Consider college financing
  • Begin special interest planning
  • Find summer opportunities that allow you to explore an area of interest


November meeting: Making the Most of the Nobles Experience and Planning for the College Process

Class II


General tasks/goals:

  • Explore and identify key criteria in the college search
  • Develop preliminary college list with counselor
  • Begin standardized testing in earnest
  • Visit colleges
  • Continue special interest planning
  • Find summer opportunities that allow you to explore an area of interest

February: College Counseling School
March: Preparing to Write the College Essay
Summer: Common Application and Essay Workshops
