Teaching and Administrative Positions (2024-2025)

Computer Science Teacher (One-Year Position)

Nobles seeks an enthusiastic computer science teacher for a full-time, one-year position to begin in late August 2024. The candidate will be pivotal in promoting computer science skills and literacy among students and involves teaching introductory computer science courses. Candidates should be adept at communicating effectively with parents and the school community.

Under the supervision of the computer science department chair, the teacher will also participate in broader school activities and could have responsibilities in the technology department. Additionally, Nobles looks for multifaceted educators eager to contribute significantly to the life of the school in at least one non-academic area (e.g., athletics, community service, admissions, or performing arts) outside of their teaching.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • A robust foundation in computer science education
  • Excellent technology skills and an ability to manage classroom technology effectively

Responsibilities:

Staff Positions

Assistant Technical Director, Performing Arts

Noble and Greenough School seeks a full-time assistant technical director to join the performing arts department. This position may also provide technical support for a physics lab as needed. Each year, the performing arts department (theatre, dance, instrumental, and vocal music) produces five to six theatre productions, one or two dance concerts, and six to eight music performances. The science department runs two single-semester project-based physics/engineering courses, which challenge students to design, prototype, construct, and troubleshoot.

This person will work under the supervision of the director of technical theatre and design (DTTD), head of the performing arts department, and director of theatre to support the yearly slate of productions, performances, and events in theatre spaces.

The assistant technical director works directly with the DTTD to ensure the proper operation of the Nobles theatre and auditorium spaces and the scene shop, overseeing the staging, scenic, rigging, and soft goods needs of department productions and projects. 

Responsibilities include:

  • In coordination with the DTTD, ensures that scenic elements are built according to specifications, on schedule, safely, and in 
  • support of learning objectives during the academic day and Afternoon Program.
  • Assisting in daily shop prep for and construction of productions, including picking up rentals and other materials, maintaining equipment, and promoting safe, clean, and efficient working conditions 
  • Maintaining the inventory, placing orders, and prepping for load-in and strike of shows Serving as a secondary instructor for stagecraft and design classes as well as the technical theatre afternoon program to ensure proper technique and safety standards for all students 
  • Assisting in training and supervising students on proper equipment protocols, communicating and enforcing safety procedures in scenery/electrics/rigging, and teaching the necessary skills and procedures for the construction and finishing of scenery and properties
  • Providing instructional and mentoring support to students
  •  Supporting the technical needs of the performing arts program, including music and dance concerts and schoolwide events. Duties often include Saturday/weekend work calls and evening technical rehearsals, concerts, and support at performances of our theatrical productions. Physically supporting the safe management of space, materials, and project work in the physics lab 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Physical Demands:

  • Comfort working on ladders/ scissor lifts/ personal lifts 
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Ability to move and manipulate ladders and other large objects
  • Ability to easily climb stairs and ladders
  • Comfort working at heights of over 5’-0”
  • Vision requirements: Full-color vision and depth perception
  • Ability to distinguish sounds and hear well in a noisy environment

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one to three years of relevant professional experience, including project and crew management
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or related field. MFA preferred, other MFA disciplines, or commensurate professional experience also considered
  • Availability to work some nights, weekends, and possible holidays, as scheduled in advance with the director of technical theatre and design 
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license 

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of theatre drafting standards
  • Understanding of scenic construction techniques
  • Rigging experience and skills; experience with rigging in a dead-hung space, a plus
  • Skills in crew management and scheduling
  • Creative problem solving
  • Shop and inventory management and organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Vectorworks
  • Finer woodworking, furniture, and house construction knowledge a plus
  • Compliance with and supervision of safe workshop practices

Desired Skills:

  • Metalworking abilities, especially welding, are a plus
  • Ability to visually inspect and direct color-matching efforts
  • Capability to assist with paint as needed
  • Carving and sculpting foam and other media a plus
  • Knowledge of general stage electrics (lighting/video)

  • Basic understanding of sound console usage or mixing, a plus
  • Experience using Lightwright and QLab

Admission Coordinator

Noble and Greenough School seeks a highly organized and team-oriented individual to serve as admission coordinator, a public-facing position central to the effective and efficient functioning of the admission operation at the school. This is a 10-month, 32.5 hours per week position. 

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors to the school, answer phones, manage admission office email account, assist with all email communication to prospective families, execute mailings
  • Oversee inquiries in  the admission database (Ravenna), including data clean-up and entry 
  • Process application forms
  • Assist with all admission events—participate in planning, recording event responses and attendance, producing nametags, greeting attendees
  • Monitor office supply and equipment stock, determine needs, and place orders for necessary items
  • Oversee the school’s transportation offerings, including communication with bus companies, current families, the business office, students, faculty, and staff
  • Support of the dean and director of admission 
  • Participate fully in the efforts of the admission office and the school community in general
  • Occasional night and weekend work as may be required

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of related office experience or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree
  • Strong customer service orientation and work ethic
  • Experience with diverse cultural populations and a demonstrated commitment to working in an inclusive community
  • Excellent written and oral communication and computer skills
  • Familiarity with databases such as FilemakerPro, Ravenna, and Veracross is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus
  • Comfort with Google Workspace and other technology
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and balance priorities in a fast-paced and ever-evolving, deadline-driven environment

Assistant Director of EXCEL

The Anderson-Cabot Center for Experiential and Community-Engaged Learning (EXCEL) houses the school’s community service, travel, exchange, and study away programs, which aim to promote acceptance, cultural humility, and empathy within our student body. The assistant director will be a thought partner to the director in pursuit of department goals, oversee the operational systems and processes, and forge relationships with outside organizations that will provide opportunities to do good. This highly collaborative role will also provide supervision and guidance for Nobles trip leaders, trip chaperones, or chaperones of the Afternoon Program. Finally, they will collaborate with the director to ensure all EXCEL programs and partnerships align with Nobles’ mission.

Systems Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and logistics of EXCEL programs and actively seek improvements and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with EXCEL director to conduct ongoing audits of systems, policies, procedures
  • Collaborate with EXCEL director to optimize processes, including: 
    • EXCEL trip applications/enrollment/placement 
    • Data entry and collection of trip documents
    • Risk management procedures for school-wide overnights 
    • Service hours, submission, and approval 

Extended EXCEL Team Leadership: 

  • Supervise the the extended EXCEL team, which includes faculty and staff who deliver EXCEL programs (approximately 10 Afternoon Program chaperones, 14 trip leaders, 30 trip chaperones per school year)
  • Cultivate engaged trip leadership and chaperone support
  • Evaluate performance and provide feedback
  • Train faculty on the use of systems, processes, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and risk management protocols

Student Engagement:

  • Spearhead initiative to increase student meetings with the EXCEL team to promote meaningful community service/EXCEL engagement within the student body
  • Deepen the culture of reflection that connects students’ EXCEL engagement to academic and personal growth.
  • Enhance and support opportunities for service in the middle school
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to the Community Service Club

Community Engagement:

  • Investigate the impact of community service graduation requirements and make recommendations
  • Forge meaningful relationships with local organizations, nonprofits, and international partners to create service opportunities for students that have a positive impact
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop service projects that address real-world needs and align with the school’s values
  • Conduct site partner check-ins for the Afternoon Program
  • Coach one season of community service Afternoon Program

Exchange Program:

  • Support host faculty/staff in their planning and execution of exchange visits 
  • Coach hosts on how to create a meaningful experience for students
  • Review and approve exchange visit schedules and activities

Data Reporting and Evaluations: 

  • Debrief trips with leaders and chaperones after they return
  • Facilitate post-trip feedback and data collection for EXCEL trips 
  • Contribute to year-end reports 

Other:

  • Align student-driven fundraising with mission-driven outcomes   
  • Support and promote EXCEL initiatives and events and represent EXCEL internally and externally 
  • Serve one season of an Afternoon Program outside of community service  

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required
  • Proven experience in program development and management in experiential education, community service, or travel programs
  • 5–7 years of experience supervising educators or direct service staff 
  • 5+ years experience in risk management specific to serving student and or youth populations in experiential education and travel programs 
  • Track record of operational process improvement in nonprofit or educational spaces
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to inspire and engage students and faculty
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and community partners
  • Passion for community engagement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant master’s degree or certification
  • Knowledge of Boston metro/Dedham nonprofit landscape and community needs
  • Experience leading anti-oppressive community engagement initiatives and proven commitment to DEI practices

School Nurse

Nobles seeks a registered professional nurse certified with the Massachusetts Board of Nursing for a position as School Nurse and Associate Director of Health Services. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic community whose members are passionate about developing positive student relationships and fostering the growth of engaged, ethical citizens and leaders.

The role of the school nurse at Nobles is multi-faceted. The school’s nurses support the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of a diverse community, including students, faculty, and staff. The school nurse develops relationships of trust built on respect, adherence to the highest ethical standards, professionalism, and effective communication with the school physician, counseling staff, athletic trainers, student advisors, boarding staff, class deans, faculty, and families. In addition to clinical work, the school’s nurses develop, implement, and evaluate school health programs. The school nurse works collaboratively using a team approach to support student health, prevent illness and disability, and achieve early detection and treatment of health-related issues.  

Traditionally at Nobles, the school nurses are vital members of the Student Well-Being Team, collaborating to support the whole child. The school nurses are part of the “Middle School Core” team with various duties and responsibilities. They may include serving as a Middle School advisor, Personal Development teacher, and chaperoning field trips, including the Washington DC Class V trip.

The responsibilities of the School Nurse are to:

  • Provide healthcare for approximately 625 students, ages 12-19 years;
  • Coordinate a comprehensive health program consistent with Massachusetts statutes, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing and school health;
  • Manage and communicate student health needs as necessary, including medication administration, allergies, health issues, episodic care, wellness needs, and associated documentation;
  • Maintain current physical and immunization records electronically for all students;
  • Collaborate with other team members and community providers to coordinate students’ health-related needs;
  • Partner with parents/guardians and students to develop and implement individualized health care plans as needed;
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding health concerns that require follow-up monitoring, evaluation, or treatment;
  • Support the EXCEL team with trip health preparation and risk management training:
  • Develop and implement health education programs to promote the health and wellness of all members of the community;
  • Coordinate care of students with physicians, parents/guardians, counselors, and other school staff;
  • Respond to acute illnesses and injuries and provide emergency care;
  • Work to maintain a safe campus environment by monitoring supplies and equipment;
  • Perform weekend and night responsibilities to support the life of the school, community, and the academic program as required by the position or requested by the school. This may include after-hours communication, in certain instances

Requirements for the position:

  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills with an ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ambitious and a self-starter with patience, a sense of humor and flexibility
  • An ability to work independently, with demonstrated ease in effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks and demands 
  • A demonstrated high level of cultural competence working with a diverse population of students
  • An ability to respond to medical emergencies campus-wide
  • Ability to recognize when physical ailments might be related to emotional concerns, and to guide students to the proper supports
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing mandatory, Master’s degree preferred
  • Registered Nurse with Massachusetts license in good standing
  • Up-to-date credentials and certifications as expected of the position
  • Minimum of two full years of employment as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts, preferably in pediatric or school-based nursing
  • Successful completion of a CORI, SORI, and National fingerprint background check
  • Available 7:45 am-4:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Additional after-hours and weekend email communication might be necessary
  • This is a 10-month, (mid-August through mid-June), 40-hours-per-week position.
  • Available to begin work Monday, August 19, 2024 
  • Some summer work is required to be ready for the opening of school

Physical Demands:

Physical demands are more than those for sedentary work and will require the ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds, walk the campus, (sometimes very quickly), go up and down stairs, lift and push objects as well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, sit and stand for long periods. Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects.
